Thomas Lynch
Thomas Lynch is an essayist, poet and funeral director of Lynch & Sons funeral home in Milford, Michigan, where he was born.
His poetry collections are Skating With Heather Grace (New York, Alfred A. Knopf, 1998); Grimalkin & Other Poems (London, Jonathan Cape, 1994); and Still Life in Milford (Jonathan Cape, 1998).
His books of essays are The Undertaking Life Studies from The Dismal Trade (Jonathan Cape/New York, WW.Norton, 1997); Bodies in Motion and at Rest (WW Norton/Jonathan Cape, 2000); and Booking Passage (Jonathan Cape/WW Norton, 2005).
There have been two documentary films made on his life and work, including The Undertaking, directed by Cathal Black and written by Cathal Black and Philip Davison.
He lives and writes in Michigan, and in West Clare, where he keeps an ancestral cottage.
